The Surveyor as Expert Witness
The courts have shown themselves to be increasingly willing to criticise expert witnesses who are perceived to have failed to comply with their professional duties. Not only can such criticisms have a real impact upon the outcome of the case, they can also have wider professional implications for the experts themselves. In this session, Rupert Cohen of Landmark Chambers will draw on recent case law to provide some essential dos and don’ts for surveyors acting as expert witnesses in the dilapidations arena.
The session will cover:
- the expert’s duties to the court
- how to prepare an effective (and compliant) report
- how to deal effectively with cross-examination.
The session will be chaired by Paul Tonkin, Partner Hogan Lovells
The speaker is Rupert Cohen, Barrister, Landmark Chambers
Rupert Cohen is a barrister at Landmark Chambers specialising in all aspects of property litigation. He has been described as “A fantastic advocate, frighteningly clever and an absolute pleasure to work with.”
